The running back is the most bruising position in the NFL, as it demands the player to be the complete package in terms of toughness and speed, as they literally need to barrel their way through a multitude of bodies, all ready to take them down. That is why the best in this position combines a lot of fast footwork, a sudden burst of speed, and full, raw power, with the mission to at least carry the ball to a first down. You need to have the speed and agility of a wide receiver, yet have the brute strength of a guard in order to be the called a top running back. The NFL has produced many of them over the years, and we have 16 of these people on our list, with most of them making the Hall of Fame due to the consistency that they displayed in their position.
