Muhammad Ali is one of the 20th century’s most celebrated figures in boxing. The Kentucky-born boxer was 12 years old when he started training and earned his first gold medal at the 1960 Summer Olympics when he was only 18 years old. Months later, Muhammad became a professional boxer and fought in lots of memorable fights during his career.
Aside from being a famous boxer, Muhammad’s life outside the ring also became the subject of controversies. He was arrested and stripped off of his boxing title after refusing to be drafted in the military, but his conviction was overturned after his successful petition to the US Supreme Court. After retiring from boxing, Muhammad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He died on June 3, 2016 at the age of 74. Here are some preserved photos of the famous boxer from his childhood to his last days.
