A Photolog of Fame: The Smashing Pumpkins from Inception to Today
The Smashing Pumpkins is the American alternative rock band behind the hit songs “Bullet with Butterfly Wings”, “1979”, “Tonight, Tonight” and “Perfect”. The band was formed in 1988 in Chicago, Illinois by Billy Corgan, who served as the lead vocals and guitarist, and James Iha, another guitarist. Completing the group were D’arcy Wretzky on bass guitar and Jimmy Chamberlin on drums.
The band gained success with their second album Siamese Dream in 1993. They also built an audience after a lot of tours and the release of their double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness in 1995, which reached the top of the Billboard 200 album chart.
The Smashing Pumpkins sold 21 million albums sold in the US alone, making it one of the bands that gained commercial success in the 1990s. However, in 2000, they disbanded due to fights and drug use.
