A Photolog of Fame: Nirvana from Inception to Breakup

Few bands are able to change the rock and roll landscape and Nirvana is certainly one of them. Despite releasing only three full-length albums and an untimely breakup, Nirvana became one of the most influential bands the world’s ever seen.

Frontman Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic formed the band in 1987. After several drummers, Dave Grohl joined the band in 1990, and everything else that followed worked in their favor – except for their breakup. Hair metal acts like Poison, Skid Row, Guns n’ Roses and Def Leppard dominated the rock and roll scene during that time, but their dominance started to fade after the release of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” which immediately popularized the alternative rock genre. Since then, Nirvana’s sold millions of records around the world. After seven years of being active in the music scene, the band’s members went their separate ways when Kurt Cobain died in 1994. However, the band’s legacy lived on and they became a Hall of Fame inductee in 2014.

Let’s relive Nirvana’s musical journey through the following photos.
